What does “6-7” mean?
6-7 (said “six seven”) is a nonsense catchphrase: kids say it, often with a palms-up, hands-alternating gesture, as a reply to almost anything. It doesn’t mean much, which is the joke.
Where it comes from
From Skrilla’s 2024 song “Doot Doot (6 7),” spread through TikTok edits of the basketball player LaMelo Ball, who is six foot seven, and then through school hallways in 2025. Dictionary.com named it Word of the Year for 2025, with searches up more than sixfold since June; Merriam-Webster listed “six seven” among its most looked-up words of the year.
6-7 in a sentence
- “How was the test?” “Six seven.”
- Every sixth grader in the car said it when the clock hit 6:07.
Can you say it at work?
No. It is a kids’ catchphrase, and saying it in a meeting is the fastest way to date yourself.
