Accessibility.
Gloss is built so that anyone can look up a word and keep it, whatever eyes, hands or attention they bring to it.
VoiceOver
Every screen works with VoiceOver. A word card reads as one piece, the word, its part of speech, the explanation and the sentence, with the actions in the rotor: collect today’s gloss, save, share, change the style. Each word is read in its own language, so VoiceOver says it right.
Larger text
Text follows your iPhone’s text size. At the largest sizes the card keeps its proportions and the style wheel becomes a row of six buttons, all visible.
Reading comfort
In Settings, Reading comfort lets you set the text size up to two steps above your iPhone’s, choose line spacing, bold the key phrase, switch to a dyslexia-friendly typeface (Atkinson Hyperlegible Next), and warm the page after sunset.
Reduce Motion
With Reduce Motion on, every movement, the rewriting of an explanation included, becomes a short cross-fade, and the magpie holds still.
Styles for the way you read
ADHD puts the point first, in short pieces. Like I’m 5 uses only simple words. Plain says it once. They exist because people read differently, and none of them changes the meaning. How we write explains how.
Still to come
Dark mode is designed and arrives after launch.
